Labská bouda
History of Labská bouda (Labe lodge) dates back to the year 1830 when an enterprising woman called Blasse built in these places a small shed made of stone, bark and brushwood where she started to sell goat cheese, milk and spirits there.
Later owners, the Devátové and Sírové from Rokytnice nad Jizerou, extended the original primitive building to provide accommodation for visitors. In between 1878 – 1879 the building was rebuilt by count Jan Harrach and in 1888 – 1889 it was even more enlarged with further extensions.
In 1904 he established the first natural park in the mountains of Krkonoše. Labská bouda was very popular. Guests could taste traditional food of the region like sour soup of Krkonoše, dumplings made from grated raw potatoes with greave and sauerkraut or bread baked right inside the building. Since 1934 the tenant of the building was Bedřich Hloušek, a significant mountain lover and patriot, whose life ended after being arrested by gestapo. Later on, the building was rented by Josef Zapadlo.
On 6th November 1965 the building of Labská bouda burned down because of craftsmen´ reckless manipulation with petrol lamp. The foundation stone of a new building was laid on 12th June 1969.
The present day Labská bouda was opened publicly on 15th November 1975. The bouda was run by state enterprise – Krkonoše Hotels until 1996.
